In just a few years' time, Kristy Woodson Harvey has become a noted and celebrated Southern fiction writer.
She began with novel number one, Dear Carolina. And now hitting the scene is her second novel, Lies And Other Acts Of Love.
This author clearly has a knack for moving a story along with graceful aplomb, which is something you'd expect from a writer who has honed her craft for many years. Not one just beginning her journey.
I think I probably said this in my review of her first novel, and I'll say it again. I think Woodson-Harvey's strong suit is her dialogue. It flows as smooth and gratifying as a tall glass of iced tea on a hot Southern afternoon.
It's quite evident that she reaches deep within herself to bring her characters to life. This author seems to have the magic touch for building her protagonists into strong personalities that endears us to them.
She deftly weaves her characters through time, love and heartbreak to create a beautiful tapestry, rich in emotion and imagination.
I'm not going to give much away. But this book is about love and lies, and what happens to our expectations when we build someone up just to see them fall.
Her book is about family. And family is so very special. But often the relationships we have with them are the most complicated.
Lies And Other Acts Of Love is an inter-generational story that comes from two points of view: granddaughter and grandmother.
This novel brings to mind the old French saying: "The more things change, the more they stay the same."
Kristy is most certainly a rising star, and I believe that she will rise to heights she has never even thought to reach for.
This is a novelist who understands human behavior, and how to skillfully carry a story from beginning to end as if she was born to tell the tale.
This girl is really going places. She excels at the craft of writing as though she's been doing this for a very long time. When in fact she's just begun her already stellar career as a writer.
