Regular furniture can be boring. Why not spice up your living room with a little something different instead? If you want to stick your mark on your living room, you need to think outside the box a little. There’s no harm in getting a little imaginative with your interior design. Here are a few ideas you might find to be of use.

Cocktail Arcade Machine

Even if you’re a fan of video games or not, these little beauties can add a cool aesthetic to your living room. A cocktail arcade machine is like a table height arcade machine. Instead of looking up at the screen, you’re instead looking down at it. Add a stool to sit on and you can comfortably play games for hours. The cocktail machines you can buy today are usually loaded with classic arcade games. You can even get versions that are coin operated if you want that extra arcade feel. It’s certainly something you wouldn’t expect to see in a regular living room. It’ll help entertain guests for sure.

Beanbags

As an alternative to regular chairs and sofas, why not try giant bean bag furniture instead? They’re easier to move and in a lot of cases more comfortable. Sinking into a sofa isn’t very comfortable. Sinking into a bean bag though? Much better. As the beans move to accommodate your body shape, you’re supported properly on both your back and your neck. If you need some extra floor space, they’re a lot easier to get out of the room than a sofa.

Lava Lamps

Bored of conventional light bulbs and lamps? It’s time for a blast from the past with a lava lamp. Just switch it on and bathe in its warm, colorful glow. You can spend hours just watching the goop inside the lamp swim inside of it. The only problem with a lava lamp is that it doesn’t project light all too well. You can’t use it as your main light source. It’s very good for setting the mood though. If it’s a sleepy winter evening and you’re settling in for a movie, turn the lights off and get the lava lamp out. It’ll make it illuminated enough that you don’t bump into everything if you stand up, but it’ll be low enough to give that cool cinema feel.

A Japanese Kotatsu

Take inspiration from the East with a kotatsu. A kotatsu is a low table that sits in the center of the room. In Japan, they are like a dinner table where you can have your meals, or just sit around and talk with the family. You sit or kneel on a cushion placed on one of the four sides of the kotatsu. In the winter, they often bring out an electric blanket to place over the kotatsu and a wooden board to act as the table surface. It’s a very unconventional idea here in the West, but it has a certain aesthetic charm as well as many practical uses. If you want your living room to be a bit more cultural, you can get one of these.
