This Information 10 Decorating Ideas For Apartment Dwellers, Read Now

Let's say you're moving into an apartment. When you go take a look at it, it seems terribly generic and without any personality (unless you've got boat loads of money and can afford the fanciest).

How can you take a generic apartment and make it appealing and a place you will love to live in?

1. Living Rooms
Bring in your furniture. Get it arranged. Then accessorize. Your accessories are what defines your personality.

Bring in color. This is perhaps one of the best ways to change the look of your generic apartment.

The shelf behind the sectional helps with storage.

2. Storage
Buy furniture that serves more than one purpose. Storage, any way you can get it for your apartment, is usually a life saver.

3. Kitchens
Your kitchen will probably be on the small side. So go vertical and eke out every bit of space that you can.

The pegboard is a great idea. Putting contact paper or removable wallpaper on the fronts of cabinets makes it you.

Taking off the doors below the sink and putting a cute curtain there gives it a nice cozy look as well.

4. Dining Rooms
Dining rooms, if you're lucky enough to even get one in an apartment, are typically small as well.

I would get a table with chairs that don't match for personality, first of all. I hate to see those small matchy-match dinette sets.

If you have room for a sideboard, you can either use it for a beverage bar, or a place to arrange food for guests when you entertain.

Did you notice the art on the walls? Fabric-covered canvas. A very cheap way to decorate your walls.

5. Window Treatments
Utilize window treatments to give your apartment some glam. This is where you can go wild with color or texture, etc.

6. Home Offices
Maybe, like me, you're in a one-bedroom and don't have a designated office. But look around and find a spot for a place to create one.

Mine is in the dining space. Where I can gaze out the patio doors.

7. Bedrooms
You want this to be a serene and restful place. If you have vertical blinds, you can always take them down and put up some pretty curtains.

Rugs define your space in an apartment. And provide needed texture.

(I still haven't taken down the vertical blinds, but I'm planning on doing it.)

8. Bathrooms
Your bathroom will probably be small and not have a lot of storage space.

Get a sweet new shower curtain. And if you have those mirrors that are plain and clipped to the wall, you might think about putting some trim around it to give it some pizzazz.

(My next project may be to spray-paint the bathroom counter. Stay tuned...)

9. Patios
If you're on the ground floor and have a patio, decorate that space because it adds to your living space.

Don't let that little piece of real estate go to waste at your apartment! Decorating the outdoors will enhance your space and give an additional place for guests to go.

10. Balconies
And if you're on the second floor or above, here's a sweet little balcony that makes the most of its space. Cozy and cute.
